Empty Cradle by Emmy Jackson5/24/2023 ![]() Order may come in multiple shipments, however you will only be charged a flat fee.Ģ-10 days after all items have arrived in the warehouse Items in order will be sent as soon as they arrive in the warehouse. ![]() Though she's the driver and travel-master, Ivy quickly learns that getting her cargo to its destination isn't going to happen without their help. For the injured Ivy to complete this nearly impossible task, she's got to trust Corey, but his youthful enthusiasm makes him both an asset and a liability in a world of scarce supplies, determined bandits, equipment-stealing gleaners, and mutated, half-human "biters." The other passengers Ivy takes on-a traveling historian with a mysterious past, a cheerfully abrasive mercenary and her deer-shapeshifter companion-add their own unique complications. She agrees to take him on a treacherous 2,300-mile trek through hostile terrain to deliver a mysterious piece of cargo. Corey Sanderson, a farmboy who's eager to escape his bleak rural existence at all costs, proves to be Ivy's salvation. She may have tumbled out of the frying pan and into the fire. ![]() A scavenger in a post-apocalyptic America where long-distance travel can be deadly to the few who attempt it, Ivy is a rare commodity-fertile woman untouched by the epidemic "Empty Cradle." When she's ambushed and nearly killed thanks to an offer of trust she shouldn't have extended, the villagers who save her demand a hefty price in return-a baby born of her womb. ![]() ![]() Ivy Aniram can't afford to make stupid mistakes. ![]()

Joni mitchell and leonard cohen5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() i was born into this mad crazy world that same year. Joni mitchell’s 1982 album release was called wild things run fast. “every bit of trouble i went through, i’m grateful for … bad fortune changed the course of my destiny.” (joni mitchell) they burn straight into the solitude of the soul. as she sings in “blue”, songs are like tattoos. her songwriting provides sweet soundscapes for us all. it’s the type of writing that is so raw and transparent that even i, as the reader, cannot help but feel a connection to the musician. Yaffe’s biography of the gritty gypsy is deep and moving. our canadian prairie poetess who brought a bohemian beatitude to the masses. ![]() like many free-spirited millennials who cite “river” as their favourite christmas song, swoon over her chronicled and convoluted romance with leonard cohen, mimic her leather and lace ensemble, and embrace her folk lyrics as love letters of their own, i’ve forever and a day adored joni mitchell. Reckless daughter: a portrait of joni mitchell by david yaffe has been my late night literary lullaby for the past few weeks. ![]()

If i were you by leslie margolis5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() THEMES: friendship, jealousy, the-grass-is-not-greener Maybe I'm a big prude here, but I think that's way too mature behavior for 12-year old girls. Melody kisses a boy (her secret boyfriend) in a hot tub. Katie goes around town wearing Melody's mother's skimpy dresses and makeup. ![]() Both girls go anywhere they want to in town without adult supervision. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The biggest thing that put me off is how these 12-year old girls are portrayed as though they are 15 or 16. I liked the girls' voices and felt they were well-drawn as characters. Many 11- and 12-year old girls will identify. Katie and Melody each think the other's life is just perfect, and this at the heart of their recent arguments and irritation with one another. The theme of being jealous of a friend's life rings true. ![]() We are selling this book in our school's book fair this week, and it's sold well, especially with my sixth grade girls. The cover is cute, and it looks like a fun summer read. This book is incredibly easy to booktalk with sixth and seventh grade girls. Freaky Friday is an older movie and book, so if your students don't know it, you could always show them this clip. WHAT I LIKED: Comparisons to Freaky Friday are inevitable here, except this time, it's two friends switching places. Hundreds more reviews like this one at Mrs. ![]()
